DIMAPUR — In a major development, the NSCN/GPRN (K-YA) army officers led by Maj. Gen. Langnyei Konyak have broken away from the leadership of the NSCN/GPRN president, Yung Aung (YA), and resolved to no longer serve under his command.

The army officers would instead serve the NSCN/GPRN under the leadership of Gen. Kumchok, commander-in-chief, and Lt. Gen. Thungching, deputy commander-in-chief, of the Naga army, stated an update received here on Tuesday.

In an executive meeting held on April 8 at GHQ Naga Army, it said the NSCN/GPRN Naga army decided to “revolt against the mal-administration system of the government”.

It said from April 2012, NSCN/GPRN entered into a ceasefire agreement with the government of Myanmar during which it sanctioned several developmental activities, including 45 vehicle licenses.

“But all those developmental activities have gone without the knowledge of the Naga armies,” it claimed.

After the death of SS Khaplang, the former chairman of the NSCN/GPRN on June 8, 2017, “the administrative system of the NSCN/GPRN has deteriorated”.

It claimed that arms and ammunition ‘dumped in the armory’ were snatched by Myanmar’s army, and foreign diplomacy and aid were not disclosed to the Naga army officers.

It alleged financial irregularities, and meeting other factions without the knowledge and consultation of the Naga army officers.

It said the Naga army officers were not allowed to hold any meeting or conference till 2023.

“Several attempts have been made by the 16 tribes of western Naga people including the state government, who are the pioneers of the Naga revolution to meet the President of the NSCN/GPRN. But he did not allow them to meet him by ignoring the humble request made by the Naga people,” it went on to claim.

Further, it said the people of eastern Nagaland were in “dilemma” because of different Christian denominations which has resulted in misunderstandings.

It also alleged that top NSCN/GPRN members were “expelled without trial or statements from the membership of the council, without the knowledge and consultation with the council members”.
