Dimapur, Jan. 4 (EMN): In pursuance to its earlier notification dated January 2, 2022, and in continuation of the ongoing first phase day-2 of public agitation, the Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) stated that no government officials, researchers or tourists (both domestic and international) would be allowed to visit Fakim Wildlife Sanctuary, Mt. Saramati, Stone caves in Mimi and Salomi.

A YTC press release issued by its executive chairman, Y Makezho, informed that all sorts of activities at the aforementioned sites would henceforth remain suspended indefinitely. It has also asked any individuals/ officials who are currently stationed to withdraw/ exit within 24 hours from the date of issue of this public notice. YTC also stated that the Likimro Hydro Electric Project (LHEP) would also be shut down indefinitely.

The decision was necessitated in expressing resentment against the state government’s failure to declare Shamator district. YTC further informed that this public notice would be enforced with immediate effect.

WYH supports Shamator district demand

Western Yimkhiung Hoho (WYH) has appealed to the government of Nagaland (GON) for an early declaration of Shamator ADC to a full-fledged district for the uplift and overall development and also for administrative convenience of the Shamator sub-division and the entire administrative circle that comes under the proposed Shamator district.

A WYH press release by its media cell stated that Yimkhiung is the only indigenous tribe in Nagaland devoid of district. It, therefore, stated that the community deserved to have a district of its own in tandem with other recognised tribes of Nagaland after asserting the genuine land demarcation claim of the parties.

WYH also appreciated the decision of the Nagaland chief minister and his esteemed cabinet for declaring Shamator district “In principal” towards the Yimkhiung tribe. While support the Shamator district demand, WYH appealed to the state government to address the long pending issue at the earliest.
