YTC set to celebrate Tsüngkamnyo Mini Hornbill festival
DIMAPUR — The Yimkhiung Tribal Council (YTC) is all set to celebrate Tsüngkamnyo Mini Hornbill festival at Yimkhiung Heritage Village, Mündün, from January 15 to the 17th.
An update from YTC stated that among many festivals celebrated by the Yimkhiung tribe, Tsüngkamnyo, the post harvest festival, is celebrated on January 16 annually and construed as an important festival.
It stated that the community members, during the festivity, perform traditional rituals and offer prayers to the creator called ‘Arimpuh’ for the abundant harvest, save domesticated livestock from disease and catastrophe, protect the lives and property throughout the year and sought blessings for the ensuing year.
It added that hosting of community feast, exhibiting wealth and act of philanthropy are other significances of the festival. Such activities leave a great legacy to the younger generation to adopt and develop a good social behavior thereby contributing communal harmony in the society, it added.
