Dimapur, Aug. 24 (EMN): The Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, GoI, in collaboration with the Youth Welfare Club organised a day programme on “education in basic vocation and soft skills,” on Aug. 24 at the Youth Hostel in Dimapur.
The district public relation officer of Dimapur, Lolano Patton, who attended the inaugural session as the special guest, maintained that the demand for higher level of skills both in the government and private is ever increasing, leading to further development of vocational education funded by the central as well as the state governments and various other organisations.
She described the selected trainees numbering around 20 young girls as the lucky ones as they have been selected to undergo basic education in shoe making, sponsored by the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, GoI.
Patton observed that basic vocation or skill based education enables the trainees to acquire skills which will enable them to get experience in a particular technique through manual or practical activities. She advised the trainees to wisely use the practical skills imparted during the training.
“Be sincere, committed, trust in yourself, aim high and be the best you can be, if you look at yourself honestly you are carrying a goldmine within you” Patton said.
United Nations volunteer, District Youth coordinator, K Phyobemo Lotha, in his keynote address informed that the session is one important core programme of NYK, for enhancing the economic status of educated unemployed and rural youth by making them learn specific trades and skilling them through professional trainers. He further said trainees will also be taught on the process of entrepreneurial skills.
