Kohima, Nov. 16 (EMN): The Southern Angami Youth Organisation (Sayo) and tourist guides organised a programme they called ‘Dzukuo sanitation’ on Saturday, in Kohima.
A brief programme was conducted at the Dzukuo entry point in Viswema village before they proceeded to the Dzukuo base camp. The programme had Medokul Sophie, chairman of the Southern Angami Board of Trustees, as its special guest.
In his address, Sophie said the tourism industry in Nagaland is growing. According to him, tourists visit different places for various reasons. As for Dzukuo, he said, “People come here only to see nature, the raw nature that we have and that we have preserved over the years.”
In the post-modern era people are no longer investing in wealth and possessions only but in ‘happiness is life.’ He had a query for the gathering: “Are we able to make our tourist friends happy,” especially those who visit Nagaland state and Dzukuo in particular.
Sophie urged that gathering to be ambassadors of ‘nature care’ and to take care of it, no matter what the person’s profession is.
Earlier, the Southern Angami Public Organisation (SAPO) president Vimezhol Theyo gave a short speech. He maintained that God has given a land that is unique to the people to take care of. He lamented however that human activities have defiled and polluted the purity of the forests and its resources.
Theyo appealed to the tourist guides to familiarise themselves with the geography and its surroundings, stories and significances and be courteous to their clients.
Zakieletuo Tsukru, president of the Sayo, maintained that waste and plastic litter have been increasing each year in Dzukou. He asserted that the organisation had promptly taken action. On June 5 this year, it declared Dzükou a plastic-free zone.
Tsukru expressed hope that its objectives would be a success. He sought for cooperation from the tourist guides and visitors to maintain and preserve the place as a tourist hotspot.
Tsukru said also that the Sayo has been working on tourism data and peak tourist seasons to enable better management of tourism. He expressed confidence in more creative ideas in the organisation’s endeavour.
