SECHÜ ZUBZA, JUNE 24: Social activist, Niketu Iralu, implored the need for the younger generation to contribute positively by responding to the challenges the Naga society is facing today.

Iralu, a trustee at Centre for North East Study & Policy Research, New Delhi & Guwahati, foresee that the future of the Naga society will much depend on how the younger generation battle against the challenges that lies ahead of us.

Speaking to a host of students during the annual fresher’s social of Baptist College at Sechü campus on June 24, Iralu trusted his hope upon the upcoming generation and urged them to remain steadfast to bring about a positive change in the Naga society.

While mentioning the many challenges the students have to overcome in the next few years, Iralu, a recipient of Lokapriya Gopinath Bordoloi Award and an ardent believer of humanism, advised them to have a “deep conviction of what is right and wrong and what is good or bad.’

“To bring about a positive change, you need to have a deep conviction of what is ‘right and wrong’ and what is ‘good or bad’,” Iralu said, adding that “it is time the Nagas should wrestle against the challenges with our soul and conscience, and not just with intellect.”

“The whole world is facing crisis in one or the other way,” he said maintaining that climate change and economic challenges are two uphill tasks the world is facing today. The peace activist went on to say that Nagaland is no longer isolated, and that we will face the same challenges the rest of the world is confronting at the moment.

“Our society is very much aware of the challenges. There are huge questions on how we respond to India and China. There are many more questions of what is coming ahead of us and how we respond to it,” Iralu pondered.

Nevertheless, he was hopeful that the future of the Naga society will be bright and not be bleak, if the upcoming generation learns to respond timely and positively to the challenges of our times.

The vice principal of Baptist College Sechü campus, Sebu Meru, also exhorted the students.

Meanwhile, Baptist College Kohima campus also organized the 34th freshers’ social at Ura Academy Hall on the theme “Seize the day.” The programme at Kohima was graced by Prof Pardesh Lal, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Nagaland University, Kohima campus, as the chief guest.
