Youth in Mon trained on mushroom cultivation
Dimapur, Oct. 15 (EMN): A skill training of rural youth (Stry) under sub-mission on agricultural extension (Smae) on ‘Mushroom production technology’ was conducted at mushroom spawn production unit, DHO office, Mon, on October 12.
An update from the agricultural technology management authority (Atma), Mon, informed that the EAC of Mon, Khenpa Bohlim, attended the training as the special guest. Bohlim stated that mushroom could be cultivated on a large number from agro-wastes.
He also commented that the timing of the training was good as farmers could use the recently harvested straw/ hay for the substrate preparation. He further encouraged the youth to acquire new skills and learn to stand on their own feet.
The inaugural programme was chaired by N Subenthung Odyuo, deputy project director of Atma, Mon.
During the technical sessions, resource persons namely Ngaplem Konyak and Skikyi Konyak from District Horticulture Office, Mon, imparted training on “Preparation or procurement of spawn, substrate preparation, spawning of substrate, crop management and harvesting and Marketing.” The resource persons also conducted hands-on training on substrate preparation, spawning and layering of substrate.
