Youth group initiates organic farming training

Dimapur, August 13 (EMN): Young Organic Umbrella towards Health (Youth) organised an awareness-cum-training on organic farming on Aug. 13 at Government Middle School, Vidima village in Chumukedima.

Youth is a group which was formed with objective to make Nagaland the highest organic products producing state in the country.

An update from the organisers informed that the training was initiated by the three MSW students from NEISSR Dimapur, who had undergone farm training from Sonapur farm known as “Society for promotion of Rural Economy and Agricultural Development North East (Spread NE)” in Guwahati.

It was the first training undertaken by team which was carried out in collaboration with Spread NE, Guwahati.
A total of 22 participants, including 14 students, the headmaster of the school, two teachers, two voluntary youths from the village, and three trainers attended the training.

The activities were conducted based on theoretical as well as practical methods of learning that include introduction about Youth, importance of creating school nutrition garden, effects of pesticides on children, preserving local seeds, making different shapes of bio-intensive raised beds, and bamboo bio char in school campus.

The Youth team would be exploring more schools, villages, and communities to create more awareness about the ill effects of pesticides, and to promote, preserve and protect local and indigenous seeds.
