Mokokchung, Feb 28: Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK) Mokokchung on Tuesday conducted a district youth convention cum cultural programme at Penli Community Hall, Mokokchung.
The youth convention was held with objective of promoting purposeful interaction among the youth on socially relevant issues, sensitising them to find solution of critical socio- economic and national development issues with special reference to role of youth and to provide an opportunity to youth for preparation of future road map of their involvement in nation building activities.
T Lemlila Sangtam, SDO (Civil) Mokokchung and chief guest, while stating that youth are indispensable from society, said youth should focus on service to the people and added that young people energy should be channelised towards nation building.She also exhorted the youth to get proper education so as to enhance knowledge and wisdom to decide the right discernment. She also called upon the youth to have a positive mindset and contribute positively to the society.
She further stressed that self-reliance is the best weapon en-route to successful living. She further encouraged the youth to use their talents for good purposes and nurture their skills for positive contribution to the society.
John Makhabo, DYC, NYK Mokokchung, in his key note address highlighted the aims and objectives of NYK in channelising and harnessing youth potentials towards nation building activities.
He also called upon the youth to dedicate themselves for the development of their own villages saying, “the sacrifices of the youth can only bring about the holistic rural development.”
Stating that government alone cannot bring about development, he sought the active participation and whole hearted support of youth clubs.
During the programme, the Best Youth Club Award 2016 was given to Telongjem SC Club of Longkhum village with a cash award of Rs 25,000. In the Patriotism Declamation Contest for district level, Nungsangrenla bagged the first prize while Chubakumzuk and Meyisangla were declared the second and third winners respectively. Sport materials were given to NYK, Affiliated youth clubs.
