Wokha, Jan. 4 (EMN): As Nagaland is scheduled to hold general election in the early part of this year, the executive director of Bethesda Youth Welfare Centre, Dimapur, Chenithung Humtsoe, has cautioned the youth against selling their votes or barter their future in the upcoming elections. He rather advised them to exercise their constitutional rights by choosing the right candidate.
Humtsoe stated this in his address during the 41st annual session of Bhandari Town Students’ Union (BTSU) held on Wednesday at Bhandari public ground in Wokha district on the theme ‘Fostering a sustainable future.’
Describing a union or organisation as a platform to foster unity among the members, Humtsoe advised the leaders to exercise their assigned duty responsibly. While appreciating the union for initiating such an important event, he encouraged the students to attend such gatherings stating that it would boost and contribute towards the overall growth of the society. Besides, he also informed the educated youth to be socially active and take part in community activities.
He also encouraged the students to be more dedicated in order to excel through various competitive exams. He has further cautioned against indulging in other intoxicating substances, which could have adverse effect on social and economy of the society.
The president of Lotha Students’ Union (LSU) and theme speaker, Ashanthung Humtsoe, urged upon the students to contribute for the growth of the society. Stating that every individual can contribute towards the society in their own capacity, he called upon the students to look beyond government job.
Terming many educated Naga youth staying idle at home as ‘waste of human resource,’ Humtsoe called upon them to make use of the natural resources and be self-reliant.
He challenged the youth to start small by training their minds and become professional.
The programme was chaired by Shanjo Tungoe, while an invocation prayer was said by Echungthung Ezung, pastor of Police Baptist Church. The programme concluded with a benediction said by Longshibemo Kikon.
