Youth are assets for nation building–Zhimomi

DIMAPUR — Describing the youth as assets towards nation building, the minister of Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) and Cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, today called upon the youngsters to follow their dreams with commitment and dedication to achieve success in life.

Zhimomi stated this during the silver jubilee of the Western Sümi Sports Association (WSSA)-cum-MBE Zhuikhu Memorial Trophy Gold Cup at Niuland public ground. He said that sports has now truly reached the grassroots through various schemes like Khelo India programme and Nagaland is also benefitting immensely from it as evident in the construction of various stadiums including outdoor and indoor.

He encouraged the youth to utilise every talent that is in them and make the best use of the facilities provided by the state government. Zhimomi stated that sports is a great unifier that bring communities together and encouraged the participating teams to be mindful of their responsibilities towards society and be brand ambassadors of unity.

The minister also paid tributes to the pioneers of the WSSA who envisioned the crucial platform to bridge the gap among the Sümi community and called on WSSA to carry on the legacy and be the torch bearers for positive change.

Earlier, the minister inaugurated the silver jubilee monolith, while the dedicatory prayer was said by Rev. Dr. Phugoto Sema, WSBAK executive secretary.

This year’s silver jubilee of the WSSA-cum-MBE Zhuikhu Memorial Trophy Gold Cup is being hosted at by Niuland Area Sports’ Association.

Altogether, team from 11 units under WSSA are participating in the nine-day event that would conclude on February 29.

The Minister was accompanied by Advisor & MLA (IT & Communication and Economics, Statistics & Evaluation) Sethrongkhyu Sangtam, Advisor & MLA, Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Pangjung Jamir, MLA Dr. Sukhato Sema, MLA Naiba Konyak and MLA Imtichoba Chang.
