Kohima, March 7 (EMN): Youngsters CC defeated Clarions CC by three wickets to be the first team to qualify for the semi-finals on Sunday played at the ongoing first Super Six Cricket Tournament at Rüzhükhrie GHSS playground at High School in Kohima.
Opting to bat first, Clarions CC put up a total of 50 runs. Putouzo was the top scorer of Clarions FC with the credit of 27 runs followed by Dito who scored six runs during the first innings.
Robi and Alom from Youngsters CC claimed two wickets each while playing against Clarions CC during the pre-quarters.
Chasing the target, Arjun and Raju from Youngsters CC scored 28 and 12 runs respectively. Amhale from Clarions CC also claimed two wickets during the game.
The remaining quarter-final matches will resume on Monday starting 11 am onwards while reporting time for players has been fixed at 10:30 am. The semi-final matches will be followed by the final on the same day.
Meanwhile, three teams from the Kohima Orphanage Destitute Home (KODH) – KODH (A), KODH (B) and KODH (C) are also taking part in the tournament.
KODH (C) is the only team amongst the three which is remaining in the driver’s seat up until now. After winning twice in the preliminary rounds, they will lock horns with Thumbs Up CC during the second quarter-final match scheduled at 10:30 am on Monday morning.
Vilalie Zaputo-ü, the right arm medium bowler of KODH (C) while speaking to Eastern Mirror, exuded confidence that they would win their quarter-final match. “We will give our best. We will be focusing for tomorrow’s (Monday) match instead of our win today (Sunday’s match),” he said.
Meanwhile, KODH (A) and KODH (B) lost their pre-quarter final matches on Sunday playing against their rivals. KODH (A)’s squad which consisted of junior players lost to KODH (C), their seniors by five wickets.
However, KODH (A) has scored a total of 96 runs which is so far the highest target in the tournament set by a team. The record was made after the team won their first match on March 6 despite taking part in a tournament for the first time.
On the other hand, KODH (B), while playing a tightly contested game against Clarion CC, lost by a margin of one run despite a tough fight. Zaputo-ü was appreciative of the two teams that have performed exceptionally well despite their loss.
The tournament is being organised by Yepthomi Brothers in collaboration with the Adjustment Bureau while the official sponsors of the competition are Imperial Coaching Centre, proprietor of West Road Mall Building, Tipfu Enterprise and Penta School of Music.
Altogether, 31 teams in and around Kohima district are competing in the tournament.
