Young Tragopan finds new home at conservation centre

Dimapur, May 31 (EMN): A young male Blyth’s Tragopan, which was rescued and donated by Kivikhu village in Zunheboto district, has been safely relocated at Tragopan Conservation and Breeding Centre, Kohima.

Wildlife warden Tokaho H Kinimi stated that Kivikhu village donated the rescued juvenile male Blyth’s Tragopan to the Forest department on May 29. He added that residents of Kivikhu village, with its community conserved area (CCA) which is also part of Tizu valley biodiversity and livelihood network (TVBLN), have been staunch conservation activists for many years.

He recalled a tragic incident where one of its volunteers Toika Zhimo was killed by poachers on February 14 last during forest patrol as per directive from the village council.

Department of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, has expressed gratitude to the people of Kivikhu village for the donation and upholding their resolve towards conservation and protection of the environment.
