Young folk singer selected for learning programme

Dimapur, Oct. 14: Atenle Seb, a young folk song singer who sings in the Rengma dialect, and from Tsemiyu, has been selected for the Pradhan Mantri Innovative Learning Programme (PMILP)- ‘DHRUV’ named after the polar star. She is taking part in the 14-day learning programme which will conclude on October 23.

Speaking to Eastern Mirror, Seb said that in 2018, she participated in the government’s talent initiative Kala Utsav at Kohima and was selected to perform at the national Kala Utsav. After a year, she got a call from the Humar Resource Development establishment informing her that she had been selected to attend the PMILP at Bengaluru.
Seb is the eldest in the family. She has two brothers, one studying in class-7 and another in class-11. She explained that she had always been interested in singing and acting. She started singing folk music from the previous year only.
Seb said that her idol is Indian actress Deepika Padukone.

During her stay in Bengaluru, they visited the Indian Space Research organisation and had an interaction with retired Wing Commander Rakesh Sharma, the first Indian to travel to space. They got also the chance to see models of radio satellites and other technological work of science.

Seb says that the training starts at 8:40 am and concludes around 3:00 pm. In the training they are taught classical songs by renowned national classical teachers like Subash Sahu. Likewise, they are taught Tamil songs too.

International mentors teach them about western songs and dance and different faculties from national and international institutions teach them about the different aspects of performing arts,’ she said.

Seb said to be ‘learning many new things and having a great experience’ at the training centre at Delhi, National Bal Bhavan institute. She added that on October 23 all the 60 selected students will be performing at an event Prime Minister Narender Modi will be attending.

About her future endeavours, Seb said, ‘right now I will concentrate on my education but definitely in future she will pursue acting and singing.’ She added that she is here because of God’s blessing and thanked God for his blessings on her.
