Dimapur, Sep. 29 (EMN):
To tide over the academy loss following the nation-wide lockdown due to the Covid-19 pandemic outbreak, the Yongshei Students’ Union (YSU) in Longleng district has been rendering tuitions to the students of Yongshei village, about 18 kilometre from Longleng town, since the month of June.

Speaking to Eastern Mirror, the president of YSU, S Chingyang, informed that many students were suffering due to poor internet connection and electricity and could not cope up with their lessons online.

“The union started giving these classes since June for Class 5 and above,” informed Chingyang.

One of the main reasons why the union was giving lessons only at night, according to Chingyang was because the children were “not attentive during the day and did not come for the classes”.

“We don’t have electricity at night but we try to manage with candles; during the day it is very difficult as children are not attentive and some members of the student union are also busy with their personal works,” said Chingyang.

Apart from electricity problem, he informed that teaching Science and Mathematics subjects to the older students was tough as members of the union were not well acquainted with the subjects.

“We have around 50 students now since classes 8 and 9 students have started classes. Before, we had around 70 students,” Chingyang said, adding that the class starts at around 5:30 pm and goes on till 8 pm.

The YSU, apart from rendering academic lessons, is also providing knowledge on social and cultural history based on the Morung concept of Yongsehi village every Saturday besides providing Bible lessons on Sundays.
Chingyang informed that the union hopes to continue imparting night classes even if the schools reopen.
