Dimapur, June 20 (EMN): The governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, has appealed to the people of Nagaland to participate in the “great movement” of International Yoga Day. He asserted that Yoga was ‘not a religion’ but a way of life that aims at healthy mind and body.
The governor’s establishment issued a copy of Acharya’s message on June 20 marking International Yoga Day.
‘On the special occasion of International Yoga Day, I appeal to all my beloved people of Nagaland to participate in this great movement initiated by the Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi. I hope that this will continue to promote a healthy mind and body,’ he said.
“Yoga is not a religion; it is a way of living that aims towards a healthy mind in a healthy body. Man is a physical, mental and spiritual being; yoga helps promote a balanced development of all the three.”
The press release stated that Yoga was “one of the most invaluable gifts of the ancient Indian tradition.” It originated in India nearly 5000 years ago, it stated, which was “universally accepted” as one of the most ideal practices of mankind.
“Yoga embodies unity of mind and body and promotes harmony amongst the people and nature. It encourages more holistic approach towards good health and happiness,” the governor said.
Stating that Yoga ‘provides physical and mental wellbeing’ to people, he opined, ‘We need to incorporate Yoga as part of our daily life.’
“Let us participate in the celebration of the Day and start a healthier lifestyle,” he added.
