Dimapur, Oct. 11 (EMN): As part of humanitarian service to the afflicted people under the Assam Flood Response 2022, the Caritas India in collaboration with Young Men’s Christian Association (YMCA) Madras and YMCA North Eastern Region donated food kits along with financial assistances to the flood affected families of Deramukh under Satgaon Parish, West Karbi Anglong District, Assam on Oct. 8.

An update issued on Oct. 11 informed that the flood affected families were given relief materials during a brief function which was held at Deramukh with Dr. Vincent George, President of Madras YMCA and Chairman, Southern Region of YMCAs India as chief guest and Dr. Andrew Ahoto Sema, President of Nagaland YMCA and Vice Chairman of North Eastern Region of YMCA as guest of honour.

Caritas India was represented by Jonas Lakra, Zonal Programme Lead, Caritas India, North East Zone.

Caritas India and its partner organisations including the YMCA have been carrying out relief operations in Assam after it was devastated by floods leading to hundreds of families being rendered homeless and displaced, the update informed.

Flood relief operations were launched two weeks ago by extending food and nutrition, water sanitation and hygiene besides shelter and non-food item support.

The distributed kits include food, water, dry rations and medicine along with an emergency shelter.

‘It is a matter of great relief and blessing for the people of Satgaon that YMCA Southern Region has decided to adopt the village for its development,’ the update further informed

Satgaon, comprising seven smaller villages is said to be one of the biggest Garo villages in Assam.
