DIMAPUR — As part of a lecture series, an initiative of the Yingli College Research Cell in collaboration with the internal quality assurance cell (IQAC), to make students aware of pressing issues and introduce them to academic dialogue, a lecture was held on February 21 at the college premises.

Dr. Takenori Murakami, a linguist and scholar from Tokyo University of Foreign Studies, Japan, delivered the lecture.

According to a DIPR report, during the event, Murakami discussed the cultural and linguistic similarities between the people of Northeastern regions and the Japanese, drawing parallels from traditional dances, culinary practices, and ways of life.

He also recalled how the Battle of Kohima halted the advance of Japanese forces during the Second World War, which contributed to bringing the distant nation closer in the collective imagination.

The lecture was followed by a question and answer session, igniting understanding of both historical and modern ties with the island nation.
