KOHIMA, OCTOBER 10: AIMED at passing on the esteemed tradition and cultural values of yore to the youngsters, Yimchungrü Women Organisation Kohima Unit (YWOKU) in collaboration with Yimchungrü Union Kohima (YUK) today held its first children’s cultural camp at Bharat Scouts & Guide Training Centre, Nerhema.
Addressing the gathering as the special guest, Assistant Commandant 10th NAP (IR) Batallion, K Soriso, emphasised on the need to know and preserve one’s culture. Stating that culture and tradition are reflections of one’s identity and a way of life, he also urged the gathering to uphold their own dialect.
Soriso called upon the people to balance between modern and traditional values stating that bad practices of the forefathers especially headhunting should be left behind and good values such as hardworking, honesty and respect for elders should be upheld.
YWOKU president, Tansola, said the camp was organised with the purpose to pass on the tradition and cultural values to the youngsters.
Deputy Director of Agriculture Department, Showuba; president of Yimchungrü Union Kohima, Kejingkhum; and Amenla Hanji also exhorted the gathering.
Various cultural items including traditional couple show, folk songs and games including top spinning and cock fighting were held during the day.
Chaired by YWOKU assistant cultural secretary, Ruthsan, the camp commenced with an invocation said by Associate Pastor (Women) YBBK, Yinsola, vote of thanks by YWOKU cultural secretary Hekamla and benediction by Pastor YBBK, Longri Nungti.
