DIMAPUR — A three-day quasqui centennial jubilee (125 years) of Yikhum Baptist Church (YBC) in Wokha district got underway on September 30 on the theme “Come Lord Jesus” (Revelation 22:20).

On the first day, Rev. John Ovung, former LBCA executive secretary, unveiled and dedicated the jubilee monolith, while the jubilee convention hall was inaugurated by Rev. Achumo Kithan, pastor of Tchuphyangza Baptist Ekhumko.

On the second day, the theme speaker Rev. Dr. Mar Pongener, on behalf of Ao Arogo Mundang (ABAM), greeted the people of Yikhum village. He also congratulated Yikhum Baptist Church on completion of 125 years of its establishment in the year 1923.

He reminded the gathering that it was through God’s grace that ABAM managed to extend little support towards the establishment of Lotha Baptist Churches Association way back in 1923, stated a DIPR report.

Sharing the story of Yikhum Baptist Church, which began in year 1898, Pongener related story of two persons namely Nkhao Jungi, the first Christian convert who received baptism at Impur on October 2, 1898, and Shanjamo Jungi, younger brother of Nkhao Jungi, who was baptised and study at Impur and became the second Christian convert. He stated that both the brothers married Ao women namely Nukshila and Nuksangla from the same village.

The speaker expressed believed that the jubilee would be a blessed one for members of the Yikhum village and Lotha community in the days to come.

Report stated that ABAM choirs enthralled the gathering with gospel songs.

R Zanbemo Kithan, pastor of Yikhum Baptist Church, presented mementos and gifts to members from ABAM.

The second day programme witnessed a feast honouring the daughters married to other communities.
