DIMAPUR — A newly paved link road was inaugurated in Shamator town on January 24, providing motorable access to the community. The project was supported by Yanba Showuba.
According to an update, the inaugural ceremony was attended by Chuba Temjen, deputy commissioner, Shamator, as the special guest who officially named the stretch the “Yanba Showuba Road”.
In his address, Temjen remarked that a road is not merely a path of stone and earth but a bridge that builds lasting relationships between neighbouring communities. He noted that the people are deeply rooted in agriculture, producing organic harvests that are in high demand.
“By replacing the traditional ‘head carry culture’ with vehicular access, we are not only giving our farmers the rest they deserve but also providing the infrastructure needed to export our goods and grow economically. I am truly heartened to see a community that does not wait solely for government intervention but takes the initiative to build its own future,” he said.
He added that the district administration remains fully committed to supporting such unified efforts for the upliftment of Shamator.
Showuba addressed the gathering, emphasising the importance of community-led development. He stated that for the first time in the history of the Shamator district, a committee was seen leading a project of this magnitude without depending on government funds.

“When the committee approached me, I was moved to help share their vision to eliminate the back-breaking labour of our people and replace it with the ease of wheels. Whether it is for Shamator, the ENPO region, or the Nagas in general, my heart is for those who work for the betterment of the public,” Showuba said.
Reflecting on the district’s journey since 1955, Showuba highlighted the importance of progress through cooperation. He stated that while infrastructure and education were lacking in the past, the Government of Nagaland, under the leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, is now bringing significant development to the state.
He urged the people to maintain peace and good relationships with their neighbours and to work collectively to ensure Shamator becomes a fully developed district.
The road construction committee, represented by R Chuba, chairman, and Yankiuba, secretary, extended gratitude to Showuba for his contribution and to the district administration for their encouragement.
