Eastern Mirror Desk
Dimapur, Oct. 14 (EMN): Yahoo has announced that it will shut down its Yahoo Groups on December 15, 2020, ending the online discussion board that was launched 20 years ago.

The Verizon-owned technology giant said in a statement that “Yahoo Groups has seen a steady decline in usage over the last several years”.

“Over that same period we’ve witnessed unprecedented levels of engagement across our properties as customers seek out premium, trustworthy content. To that end, we must sometimes make difficult decisions regarding products that no longer fit our long-term strategy as we hone our focus on other areas of the business,” it added.

Following the decision, Yahoo Groups website will shut down and members will no longer be able to send or receive emails from Yahoo Groups from December 15 onwards, the company said.

What will happen to your emails with your group members after the shutdown?

“The emails you have sent and received will remain in your email, though beginning December 15 messages will not be sent or received from your group members. If you try to email your group after December 15, your message will not be delivered and you will receive a failure notification,” it said.

After the shutdown, only admins will be able to invite group members to a new group. However, Yahoo Mail will continue to function normally.
