DIMAPUR, MARCH 3
Home minister Y Patton has strongly condemned the cold-blooded murder of DM Rongmei alias Mukta Rongmei, an officer of the Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL), by two unidentified gunmen at his own residence at Nagagaon, Dimapur on Sunday night. The two unidentified gunmen also grievously injured one lady, who was present in the victim’s house, by shooting at her leg, Y Patton said.
The victim was a Sub-Divisional Engineer (SDE) posted at the Zhunheboto BSNL office and was at his house at Nagagoan, Dimapur when the ‘heartless’ two motorcycle borne gunmen came in. The two gunmen called him out from his house and as the victim was coming out, they shot him dead on the spot. According to Y Patton, their actions are nothing but barbaric and most heinous act to humanity. All the sensible people should condemn such cowardly and dastardly acts of terrorism and barbarism. Violence has no place in a civilized society and it can never be the means to bring peace and solution.
“It is very unfortunately that when the Naga people and various agencies have been making their concerted efforts to see that the Naga peace process reaches its logical conclusion and a permanent peace returns to our land, there are still some elements in our society who are hell-bent on destroying peaceful environment in the state,” the Home minister stated.
The state’s law enforcement agencies have been on the job to nab the culprits. The state government will leave no stone unturned in its efforts to see that peace and tranquility is not disturbed in the state, he assured.
“I convey my deepest condolences to the bereaved family members of DM Rongmei and also pray for the speedy recovery of the lady who has been undergoing treatment of bullet injuries in Dimapur,” Y Patton conveyed.
