Xiaomi introduced its new operating system, HyperOS, during a launch event for the Xiaomi 14 series in China.

Xiaomi stated that it developed HyperOS in 2017 with the goal of unifying ecosystem devices into a single integrated system, with a focus on achieving peak performance, enhancing user experience, and improving connectivity. The company attributed the need for this integration to its rapid global growth, which included reaching 1.175 billion users and expanding into 200 product categories in just 13 years.

HyperOS is based on Linux and Xiaomi’s self-developed Xiaomi Vela system, offering efficient compatibility with various devices, regardless of RAM size. It’s lightweight compared to competitors, utilising minimal resources, the company said.

HyperOS features

Xiaomi claims that HyperOS enhances hardware and task management through dynamic adjustments, offering stable gaming performance and lower power consumption on smartphones. It also excels on lightweight devices, splitting tasks across computing units for optimal performance. The company says HyperOS also optimises various technical modules to improve hardware capabilities.

Xiaomi says that HyperOS revolutionises system architecture through the HyperConnect framework, facilitating real-time networking among a variety of devices. Users have the ability to take control through an integrated device centre, ensuring enhanced convenience and efficiency. This platform unifies connected devices to accommodate adaptive software, permitting smooth camera transitions, cross-device accessibility, and data transfer.

Xiaomi’s HyperMind AI is the core of their device ecosystem, using four perceptual capabilities to understand and address user needs while simplifying device connectivity and reducing machine learning costs. It enhances various applications, from speech generation to real-time subtitles, and allows third-party apps to utilise its AI capabilities.

In terms of security, Xiaomi says HyperOS uses its self-developed TEE (Trusted Execution Environment) as the foundation of its security system for safeguarding sensitive data on smartphones and IoT devices. HyperOS extends protection to networked devices and ensures network-wide security through end-to-end encryption via TEE for data transmission.

HyperOS launch date

The domestic version of HyperOS is set to be released in December 2023 for various Xiaomi devices, including smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, smartwatches, speakers, and cameras.
