DIMAPUR — The Western Sümi Hoho (WSH) and its frontal organisations have expressed anguish over the death threat issued by NSCN/GPRN (Khango) to KKB Rulho over a tax-related dispute and termed the act unacceptable and cannot allow disagreements over taxation to escalate into violence and intimidation.
A press release issued by WSH expressed concern by the strong reaction from NSCN/GPRN (Khango) following the Angami Youth Organisation’s (AYO) declaration of non-cooperation.
It stated that NSCN/GPRN (Khango) directing all contractors working under the purview of AYO to temporarily suspend operations, demobilise their personnel and remove their equipment and machinery from other districts was an unnecessary escalation that would only lead to more harm and suffering for the people. It added that such move has the potential to disrupt the fragile peace and undermine the progress ‘we have made towards development and prosperity.’
WSH has urged the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) to immediately withdraw the death threat and seek a peaceful resolution to the tax dispute through dialogue and negotiation. It also called upon AYO to engage in constructive dialogue to find a mutually beneficial solution.
“Let us work together to find peaceful solutions to our differences and avoid actions that may jeopardise the hard-earned peace in our state. We must work towards a peaceful and prosperous future for all, free from violence, intimidation, and fear,” WSH said.
It further appealed to all parties to exercise restraint and prioritise the well-being of the Naga people.
In a separate statement, the Müluo Shefüri Kügharü (MSK) has condemned the death threat issued by the NSCN/GPRN (Khango) to the proprietor of KKB Rülho Pvt. Ltd.
MSK stated that the directive of the NSCN (Khango) for immediate cessation and demobilisation of manpower and machinery across Nagaland on developmental works under the purview of AYO, including that of KKB, was a direct blow to the Pochury community and commuters of Kiphire district among others.
Maintaining that Rülho is undertaking road construction project, which is the lifeline of Meluri sub-division and Kiphire district, MSK said that halting such a ‘mega project’ would have adverse affects on the people.
Affirming that Rülho is not an ‘anti-Naga’ but a responsible and respected citizen, who has been immensely contributing to the society, the MSK condemned in the strongest term the ‘death penalty’ in the name of taxation.
Further, condemning the ‘hijacking’ of ongoing road project under Meluri sub-division, the MSK asserted that no group should disturb any kind of developmental project at the cost of the public.
