Dimapur, Sep. 11 (EMN): We, The People Abhiyan (WTPA), in collaboration with National Foundation for India (NFI), conducted a in a two-day youth leader training at Hotel Acacia in Dimapur on September 9 and 10.
The training was part of the Constitution for Citizens Action (CCA) programme, which aims to address the issues of low levels of citizen empowerment in the country, informed WTPA in a press release. WTPA stated that despite India’s empowering constitutional framework that supports citizen action, most citizens do not have the skills to use the methods available for accessing their rights and entitlements.
The experiential learning programme conducted focuses on most critical concepts of the constitution such as values, rights and laws and their application to the issues faced in daily life.
“It is very clear to us that every citizen should participate, individually and collectively, in making all lives equal, free, just and dignified, said Neha Yadav, head of WTPA adding, “With this in mind, we have partnered with National Foundation for India to reach citizens residing in the north eastern states of our country. This is the first time ‘We, The People Abhiyan’ will be working with a civil society partner in this region, and given the geographical cover this is a very important step for us.”
NFI programme officer, Imsutoshi, said NFI works for the capacity development of individuals and CSOs to promote leadership skills to impact society.
“We are excited to take this step and hope our leaders are able to create a deeper impact in the society,” he added.
The programme conducted in Dimapur was co-funded by European Union and the purpose of the programme was to build the capacity of youth leaders in understanding constitutional values and further taking them to the communities they work with, it stated.
It mentioned that WTPA is a civil society organisation with a mission to enable citizens to own, understand and practice constitutional values, rights and responsibilities in their lives and communities.
