In commemoration of World Wildlife Week 1st – 7th October 2014 and also to create awareness importance of wildlife protection among the student community, Forest Department, Mokokchung Division, organize an Essay Competition on the topic “Importance of Preservation of Wildlife with reference to Amur Falcon” on 7th October 2014 at Town Hall, Mokokchung. Two students each from different schools of the district participated in the competition.An awareness programme to commemorate World Wild Life Week was held at Chizami Town organised by Phek Forest Division on October 4 at Town Hall Chizami. DFO Phek Rongsenlemla Imchen IFS gave a detail presentation on management strategies and legal aspects on protection of wild life. She also touched upon the importance of endangered species such as Tragopan and Hornbill and its conservation strategies.
To mark the occasion Painting Competition under the theme “Wild Life and Water” was held for students from Eco Clubs of various schools under Chizami Town. Winners and participants were awarded with cash prizes sponsored by DFO. The programme was attended by 10 village representatives under Chizami Beat, Chizami Town Council, village functionaries, North East Network Chizami, Administration, Police, Assam Rifles, Church leaders, Women society and Student Union. The programme ended successfully with the adoption of a common resolution by villages under Chizami Forest Beat with respect to Wild Life Crime.
