World Vision holds consultation on water sanitation and hygience

World Vision India entreats government, civil society organisations and other community members to join hands to ensure provision for clean water to the States in northeast India

Dimapur, July 9 (EMN): World Vision India, in collaboration with Nagaland Development Outreach (NDO) and PHED Nagaland organised a one-day consultation on Water Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) on July 9 at Hotel Japfü, Kohima. Speaking on the occasion, Maongwati Aier, Commissioner and Secretary of PHED and special guest, stressed on the need for convergence of various government departments and civil society organisations to address the problem of water crisis across the State. He further emphasised on water conservation and water harvesting. He also appreciated the works undertaken by World Vision India in the Northeast region on water, sanitation and child health. The panellists deliberated on WASH in relation to child and maternal health, clean sanitation and hand washing at critical times. They discussed about innovation in the field of WASH related to schools, hospitals and community both in rural and urban settings. They further underlined the need for community ownership and social behavioural change. Mahesh Nathan, Associate Director of WASH under World Vision India, remarked that, “Through this consultation, we hope to draw the attention of multiple stakeholders to focus on water scarcity and evolve multi-sectoral approaches to mitigate water insecurity in the northeast states.” Panelists included Dr. Neikhrielie Khiamiao, Mission Director of NHM Nagaland; Dr. Longri Kichu, State RMNCH+A consultant under UNICEF; B Nelleyyappan, Assistant Director of School Education Department; Khrolou Lohe, NSDMA; and Dr. Anjana Purkayastha, senior Director of World Vision India. Mahesh Nathan, Associate Director-WASH, World Vision India, moderated the programme. Samuel Therieh, Associate Director, PMO Guwahati, proposed the welcome and introduction, while Dr. Anjana gave the opening remark and L Kohbung, Manager WVI, Mon, delivered the closing remark.
