World Tuberculosis Day 2020 observed in Wokha, Phek districts of Nagaland

CW Tungoe flags off a poster campaign to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day 2020 at District Tuberculosis Centre Wokha on March 24.

Dimapur, March 24 (EMN): To create awareness and educate the people about Tuberculosis (TB), Wokha and Phek districts observed World Tuberculosis Day on March 24.

Wokha: The National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), Wokha observed World Tuberculosis Day on the theme “It’s Time” with a poster campaign on March 24. The campaign was flagged off by chief medical officer of Wokha, Dr. CW Tungoe along with the NTEP staff at District Tuberculosis Centre Wokha, informed an update from district media officer.

While stating that the state government has restricted large-scale programmes and activities due to the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) outbreak, the CMO urged NTEP staff to identify TB patients and create more awareness; that the disease is curable with timely intervention and proper medication.

Meanwhile, the NTEP staff led by district tuberculosis officer Dr. Akum Jamir put up posters on TB in all the 23 colonies and wards around Wokha town.

 Phek:  The Phek Revised National Tuberculosis Control Programme (RNTCP) observed World TB Day on March 24 on the theme ‘Its Time to stop TB’. This year’s event focused on Information Education Communication activities (IEC).

District tuberculosis officer Dr. Ruokuohelie Rutsa reviewed the activities took under the programme and highlighted the changes made in order to achieve TB elimination by 2025 in India, the update informed.

Leaflets containing basic information about TB were distributed to the public to create awareness about the disease.
