World TB Day observed in Imphal

Newmai News Network IMPHAL, March 24 [dropcap]A[/dropcap]s in other parts of the world, the 33rd World Tuberculosis Day 2014 was observed at conference hall, Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) in Imphal today. The function was organized jointly by the Medical Directorate, Manipur State TB Society, District TB Control Societies Imphal East and West Manipur under the theme “Reach the three Million, find, treat and cure TB”. Dr. W. Motilal Singh, former director of health services, Manipur, Dr. A. Bijoy Singh, director of health services, Manipur, Dr. O. Ibomcha Singh, State Mission Director NHRM/Director FW Services, Manipur and Dr. N. Tombi Singh, Retd. Professor, department of Chest and Respiratory Diseases, RIMS attended the function.As part of the occasion, NGOs and ASHAs who have contributed with outstanding works towards the TB patients were felicitated and prizes were also distributed to about 6 persons which carried a cash award of Rs 1000 along with certificates. TB patients were also given DOT (Directly Observed Treatment) during the function. The World TB Day is a global effort to find, treat and cure the 3 million TB patients and accelerate progress towards zero TB death, infection, suffering and stigma. The observation will provide opportunity to raise awareness about the Global and national epidemic of tuberculosis and solutions to support, control and eliminate the disease.
