DIMAPUR — Indian Red Cross Society Nagaland State Branch (IRCSNB) along with various district units observed ‘World Red Cross Day’ on Wednesday on the theme “Keeping humanity alive.” The day was observed to commemorate the 196th birth anniversary of its founder Jean Henry Dunant.
Kohima: Kohima unit of the Indian Red Cross Society celebrated ‘World Red Cross Day’ with the students of Government Higher Secondary School in Kigwema village.
On the occasion, a brief history on Red Cross movement was share by the joint secretary, Santu Thapa, while short message was delivered by T Louis Solo, honourary secretary.
The programme was chair by Beizo Mepfhüo, MC member, while the welcome addressed was delivered by Videpal Ltu, principal of Government Higher Secondary School, and concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Tepungosa Sale, MC member.
Wokha: Wokha unit of the Indian Red Cross Society observed ‘World Red Cross Day’ at the conference hall of the deputy commissioner’s office with the DC of Wokha, Ajit Kumar Ranjan, as the special guest.
Speaking at the programme, the DC lauded the commendable job rendered by IRCS Wokha unit over the years and encouraged them to continue with the same zeal even in the days to come.
He stated that Red Cross does not discriminate anyone basing on nationality, race, religious beliefs or class but rather endeavours to relieve the suffering of individuals in distress. He encouraged all to extend help towards the society in order to make the society a safe, secure and peaceful place.
The theme speaker and pastor of Yikhum Baptist Church, Zanbomo Kithan, urged the congregation to acknowledge the services rendered by the members and patrons of Red Cross Society worldwide. He called upon all individuals, organisations and countries to come together to promote positive change and work towards a more sustainable and just society to make a peaceful world.
Secretary of IRCS, Wokha, Dr. KZ Ovung, informed that the unit has conducted medical camps in remote area and villages, distributed blankets and cash to needy people.
Students of Isiah Ability Higher Secondary School presented a song on the occasion.
Dimapur: Dimapur unit of the Indian Red Cross Society celebrated ‘World Red Cross Day’ at the auditorium of St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School (SMHSS) with the deputy commissioner of Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, as the chief guest.
Speaking at the programme, Dr. Chang appreciated the Dimapur Red Cross for being the most active district in Nagaland. He also exhorted the junior Red Cross members of St. Mary’s Higher Secondary School to carry forward the flag of Red Cross afar for the humanitarian services.
“Humanity, impartiality, independence, neutrality, unity, universality and volunteerism are the virtues which must be imbibed by one and all in today’s circumstances,” stated Dr. Chang.
The principal of SMHSS and guest of honour, Neena Dutta, assured to carry forward the Red Cross movement. She was made the patron member on the occasion.
IRCS advisor, Captain Hekiye Sema; honourary secretary, KK Paul; treasurer Ashok Agarwal; MC member Kuldeep Jain; chairman of IRCS Dimapur, Chandu Agarwal and vice chairman Ajay Sethi also spoke on the occasion.
Mokokchung: Mokokchung district commemorated ‘World Red Cross Day’ at the conference hall of the chief medical officer (CMO) with the deputy commissioner of Mokokchung, Thsuvisie Phoji, as the chief guest.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC called upon the members of Red Cross Society to be ready to help people in distress for the cause of humanity.
The welcome address was delivered by Dr. SS Akaba Longchar, honourary secretary of IRCS Mokokchung, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Kibangkumba, CMO of Mokokchung.
Red Cross members from Queen Mary Higher Secondary School, Mayangnokcha Higher Secondary School and Government High School in Mokokchung village along with the teachers attended the programme.
Chümoukedima: Chümoukedima unit of the IRCS celebrated World Red Cross Day-cum-installaltion of youth red cross at Patkai Christian College (PCC).
The programme was chaired by K Naben, while the installation of youth Red Cross members was administered by Vichutuolie Mere, chairman of IRCS Chümoukedima unit.
Dr. Prem Kumar Singh, PCC dean of Science, delivered the welcome address and followed with a song presented by Sentila Imchen.
M Kholie Dolf, MC IRCS Nagaland State Branch and resource person of the day, gave a brief history of the Red Cross and encouraged the newly inducted youth Red Cross members to actively participate and serve the community without any discrimination.
He also demonstrated on CPR and life saving skill during emergency to the newly inducted YRC PCC.
