“Be Human Kind” is the theme on this occasion of World Red Cross Day 8th May 2022”.

Perhaps a truly relevant and fitting theme. The world around feel increasingly difficult at this time–disasters, diseases, escalating conflicts, climate change, famine, unrest, etc. But through it all we, at the Red Cross Society worldwide still believe in kindness and the power of kindness.

One doesn’t hear much about kindness these days. Perhaps it is because it is a character trait that is most powerful when it is least noticed. But herein lies its power to impact and change. Kindness changes everything. It can change the way you work, the way you love – in your family, your friendships and even strangers.

Ironic as it may be, sometimes the very occupation of humanitarian service can sometimes lack the most important of ingredients accompanying it.

What is humanitarian service without kindness? Merely a mechanical act of duty or a task.

The act of service, no matter how great or urgent, is not fully realised if kindness is absent in its delivery. For in the expression of kindness love and true humanitarian service is visible and measurable. The quality of kindness is what one of the character traits of Jesus who was full of compassion and love.

We want to celebrate today those who walk in kindness and cheer them on. Every act of kindness expressed, big or small, makes a global difference. We champion such citizens of Nagaland and the world. Let us continue to make a difference.

I wish all the Red Cross staffs, members and volunteers of Nagaland a very Happy Red Cross Day.

Mrs. Abeni tck

Chairperson
