DIMAPUR — The Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP), Phek, in collaboration with the Veterinary department, observed World Rabies Day on the theme ‘Rabies: All for one, one health for all’ at the CMO conference hall, on Friday.
World Rabies Day is observed every year with the primary objective to raise awareness on the dangers of rabies and the importance of taking preventive measures, an update stated.
It also emphasises the critical role of rabies vaccination and encouraging communities, healthcare professions and veterinarians to collaborate in the fight against rabies.
Deputy Director, Veterinary department, Dr. Diko Nursory, highlighted and sensitised the participants on the importance of the rabies vaccine which, he said, is the most effective way to prevent rabies infection.
Nursory also informed about the availability of post-bite vaccination for dogs. He also deliberated on the diagnosis and importance of immunising pet animals and the different symptoms of rabies in dogs.
Speaking on the theme ‘Rabies: all for one, one health for all,’ Dr. Shevo Hiese, DVBO, said that to combat rabies, collective effort is required from individuals, communities and organisations.
He also stressed the importance of cooperation and collaboration from various sectors to achieve the goal of eliminating rabies. Hiese appealed to the participants to share and spread awareness of the importance of vaccinating pet animals.
In observance of World Rabies Day, the district will be carrying out week-long activities including vaccinating pet animals and awareness talks on rabies to school children
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Dr. Limatoshi, district epidemiologist, and the programme was chaired by. Khrusayi, DVBDC.
The programme was attended by pastors and youth leaders from different churches, NGOs and staff of CMO.
