KOHIMA — Nagaland is all set to celebrate World Music Day on June 21 at The Heritage, Old DC Bungalow in Kohima from 5 pm onwards.

Organised by the Musicians Guild (MG), the lineup for the celebration featuring various artistes from across the state include Alobo Naga and the band, Orange, Imliakum Aier and the Electric Cool Kid, KL Pamei, Azi Rudy, Fifth Note, The Gluttones, Wishes and Dreams, Renbeni Odyuo and band, and LC Sekhose.

The ‘dance battle’ is a new addition to this year’s celebration.

The MG collaborated with the Nagaland Dance Fiesta and is organising a one vs one open style battle-‘battle of Best’, which will begin prior to the main concert. On-spot registration can be done for the participants interested to compete.

During the launch of poster for MG’s eight edition of World Music Day, President Musician Guild Mele Pucho on Thursday said, the celebration is self-sponsored and artistes are performing for free in celebration of the day. ‘As music lovers, we want to make sure that we give the best artistes from Nagaland. The artistes come forward without expecting any payment’, Pucho added.

The concert is expected to last for about three hours. It is open to everyone with entry fee of INR 100, which will go towards taking care of the accommodation, food, and travelling expenses of the artistes, he informed

Artistes should not give free music, as it destroys the music industry in big way, Pucho said while expressing that on World Music Day, the concert will be held as treat to the people.

Another MG member Mengu Soukhrie said the concert will be family-friendly and a good time for families to come together. She added the concert is a collective effort without involving government assistance.

This year, the event will also be celebrated in other districts including Mokokchung and Tseminyu.
