Imphal, June 5 (EMN): The World Environment Day (WED) was observed across the state of Manipur with the theme ‘beat plastic pollution,’ on June 5 amidst of the seasonal drizzling.
Since early morning people from various pockets of the state gathered at different locations including foothill, hill top, religious, and tourists centres to take up tree plantations. The people were then distributed with non-disposable carry bags, and installed waste bins.
According to a citizen, this year’s participation of the WED in Manipur is much higher comparing to the previous years.
Over 50 volunteers from various associations, organisations, departments, and individuals have hold tree saplings and walked up to the Lainingthou Sanamahi, a shrine in Churachandpur district to launch the tree plantation campaign.
The state level WED was observed at the Lamdan in Churachandpur district under the aegis of the Manipur Mountaineering and Trekking Association (MMTA) supported by the Directorate of Environment of Manipur.
The district authorities of Senapati, Chandel, Tamenglong, and the state capital Imphal and other places also observed WED by holding different environmental related activities.
