DIMAPUR — World Day for Decent Work was observed by the Assisi Centre for Integrated Development at the Assisi Auditorium, Lakeview Colony, Dimapur, on Monday in collaboration with the NDWM Nagaland Region under the theme “Workers Deserve Peace and Democracy”.

The programme, chaired by Jascinta, focused on advocating for workers’ rights to fair working conditions and mental well-being, stated a press release.

Speaking on the occasion, advocate Priya Shyam highlighted the significance of the day, emphasising the need for peaceful workplaces. She stressed the rights of workers to fair wages, safe working conditions, job security, social protection, equal opportunities, workers’ rights, and respect.

Avikali Rosemary spoke on mental health and well-being, explaining that mental health encompasses how one thinks and feels. She mentioned that there are two types: those that can be addressed with the help of a counsellor and those requiring psychiatric treatment, such as schizophrenia, which needs medication.

She emphasised that everyone has the ability to solve problems, but when unable to do so, they should seek help from a counsellor. She also encouraged mothers to spend quality time with their children to make them feel safe and improve their mental health.

She also stressed that respect comes from within and advised participants to reflect on how much respect they give themselves, as self-respect leads to respect from others.

Earlier, the event began with a prayer by Narola, followed by a welcome address from Sr. Pramila, director and coordinator of the Assisi Centre for Integrated Development, who emphasised the importance of mental health and fair working conditions for domestic workers.

The programme concluded with a vote of thanks from Asenla Sangtam and was attended by 105 participants.
