Trinidad and Tobago international Cornell Glen has set foot in the football crazy city of Shillong ahead of his I-League campaign with North East I-League Club Shillong Lajong FC, informed a release issued by the club media manager Janice Lynrah. Cornell Glen, who has been a regular since 2002 in the Trinidad and Tobago squad, was recently on international duty where he played in the Gold Cup which was hosted by USA.
Trinidad and Tobago ranked 78 in the world made it to the quarter finals of the CONCACAF Gold Cup with Cornell Glen playing a crucial role for his country.
Cornell Glen made his international debut in 2002 with 66 international caps and 23 goals. He was named in the squad for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, where he appeared in all three of Trinidad & Tobago’s games at the premier event in Germany.
The World Cupper also led his Trinidad and Tobago’s club San Juan Jabloteh to two consecutive league championships in 2002 and 2003 scoring 12 and 26 goals in the respective seasons.
His outstanding and exceptional performances saw him making his way to MLS Metrostars and thereafter, an array of United States’ clubs including FC Dallas and MLS powerhouse LA Galaxy. Glen’s 2 goals on debut against Chivas USA gave LA Galaxy a famous win over their arch rivals in the traditional “SuperClasico” encounter between the two sides.
The prolific striker joins one of India’s most professionally- run Club, Shillong Lajong FC from TT Pro League North East Stars. The Club, which also hails from the North-Eastern part of India has thus made another marquee signing, after famously securing the services of Edinho Junior last season.
He will don the Lajong colours for the upcoming season and will be the only World Cupper to play in the 2013-14 I-League season.
Upon his arrival, Cornell Glen said he wishes to see Indian football progress to greater heights and making the decision to come to the I-league was a great opportunity for him to be a part of the whole process.
“My aim is to score as many goals as possible for the Reds, but the key would be to stay fit and I will be happy if I can help the team in the way forward.
I am really looking forward to having a great season with the team”, he concluded.
