World Bamboo Day observed at Pathso Nokeng village

Dimapur, Sep. 20 (EMN): Noknyumong Youth Organisation (NYO) Bamboo School observed World Bamboo Day at Pathso Nokeng village, under Noklak district, on September 18. 

It was held on the theme “To Plant More Bamboo”.

According to an update, the North East Network (NEN) Field Coordinator, Pongsa Lamthew, stressed on the importance of bamboo, which has a unique rapid growth and plays an important role in protecting the planet from pollution and improving the soil.

It said that he stressed on the potentials of skill development in bamboo crafts to create job opportunities with the skill sets.

‘Bamboo is a renewable resource, very versatile, it enhances economic development and imbibes in us a great optimism and cultural corporation,’ it stated.

The event was accompanied with practical lessons where youths were taught about the responsibility to revive and preserve this culture and tradition. The handicraft products from the practical class were a fusion of traditional and modern ideas.

It may be mentioned that the NYO Bamboo School was introduced by the North East Network (NEN) at Pathso Nokeng village in 2019 to promote community economic development in a sustainable way and raise awareness to conserve and promote the bamboo industry.
