Dimapur, April 6 (EMN): Wokha Forest division conducted a two-day workshop on beekeeping at Nature Learning Centre, Forest Office Complex, Dimapur, on April 4 and 5.
The programme was organised in convergence with the Nagaland Beekeeping and Honey Mission (NBHM) under the aegis of National Mission on Himalayan Studies (NMHS), Ministry of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, government of India.
An update informed that NBHM experts namely Nzanbemo K Lotha and MhathungTsopoe were the resource persons of the training programme.
Nzanbemo spoke on beekeeping for sustainable development and beekeeping start-up with special reference to Dimapur district, while MhathungTsopoe covered topics such as role of bees in forest ecosystem, honey by-products and value addition, it said.
It stated that around 200 hundred people from around eight villages in and around Dimapur participated in the programme. Participants were JFMCs, SHGs as well as public and students.
The workshops were aimed at empowering local communities by means of providing alternate sustainable livelihood options, it said. Flyers on beekeeping were also distributed to all the participants.
