Workshop on poetry writing conducted in Tizit and Diphupar
DIMAPUR — As a collaborative effort by Anamaya, a tribal health collaborative, and the National Education Society for Tribal Students, ministry of Tribal Affairs, conducted a workshop on poetry writing for the senior students of Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) in Tizit under Mon district and Dimapur on May 24 and 26 respectively.
An update from Anamaya stated that both the principals namely Bendangla Ao of EMRS Tizit and Rev. Yanger Walling of EMRS Diphupar ensured enthusiastic participation of the students. The workshop was an interactive session that included many imaginative exercises for the students.
It mentioned that globally, there is growing research to address public health communications through various innovative methods and one of the most prominent ones is advocating for arts in public health. It added that introducing arts and poetry in general education improve student imagination, narrative skills, and develop a sense of ethics towards society.
It stated that the workshops are also the beginning steps to build a more culturally competent India. It informed that children from various indigenous communities in the school wrote about their food, culture, identities and their relationships with environment among many things.

Wandering Minds organised a discussion and talk with international poet Madhu Raghavendra on May 25. The poet was in the city to conduct workshop in tribal school in Dimapur funded by ministry of Tribal Affairs.
It stated that Raghavendra has written four poetry books and his works have been featured in many literary journals and translated into many languages. He has participated in the 2022 PEN Emergency World Voices Congress of Writers at the United Nations Headquarters, New York.
The poet read his poems, talked on building cultural competency through the arts, and discussed with the students on his idea of the arts. The discussions revolved around the importance of arts, the practice of interdisciplinary collaborations, and the need for bringing in cultural flavors to the contemporary works of the students.
