DIMAPUR — A one-day workshop on ‘Plastic waste management and segregation of waste at source’ for Dhansiripar block villages was held on April 18 at Selouphe Village Council hall.

The workshop was organised by PHED (Rural) Division, Dimapur, and sponsored by Sanitation and WSSO PHED Nagaland, an update stated.

Executive Engineer, PHED (Rural) Division, Nirie-e Nisa, in his welcome address, stressed on the importance of concerted efforts from all sections of the community for successful implementation of plastic waste management in order to secure a cleaner environment.

District co-ordinator, DWSM PHED (R), Imojungla Longkumer, gave a PowerPoint presentation on the topic ‘Plastic Waste Management under SBM (G)-II.’

Longkumer said the PWM (Plastic Waste Management) is an integral component of Solid Waste Management implementation in the SBM (G) – Phase II, and that it should be included in village action plan, which will ultimately form the basis for implementation of PWM at block levels.

She also highlighted on the various steps in implementation of PWM and other aspects of PWM.

A resource team from Kuda Village Waste Processing Facility led by the founding member Kelhousesi, shared their experiences and demonstrated through audio visuals the operation of their rotary waste segregator and baling machine at their facility.

The team displayed glass and thermocol crusher along with the upcycling/downcycling of plastic wastes.

The programme was chaired by Moajungla, junior engineer of PHE, Dhansiripar.

Earlier chairman of Mission Board, CBVC Selouphe, NusazoLohe invoked God’s blessings and SDO, PHE Dhansiripar, Nagaho Sema, proposed vote of thanks.

The programme was attended by village leaders, WATSAN members and women members from various villages under Dhansiripar block.
