Workshop on energy-saving held for Kohima denizens

Kohima, Feb. 6 (EMN): Leaders of various wards and colonies in Kohima town were sensitised on energy-saving and efficiency at Kohima Municipal Council’s conference hall on Thursday.

The capacity-building programme on energy efficiency was organised by Nagaland state-designated agency on energy conservation in collaboration with the Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE), Ministry of Power.

Senior electrical inspector TK Halder said in his keynote address that growing demand for public utilities due to rising population and improved standards of living has led to an increase in energy demand. He maintained that around 30 per cent of India’s population lives in urban areas and urban local bodies face burden as migration from rural to urban areas continues.

Asserted that Municipal Demand Side Management (MuDSM) programme can improve the overall energy efficiency of the Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), Halder said it would lead to substantial savings in electricity consumption and cost reductions.

The resource person of the programme, Nilanjan Bose from Cenergist Energy Pvt. Ltd. Kolkata said that “energy conservation is something we have to (apply) by force” and highlighted the Energy Conservation Act. 2001. He also spoke about the benefits of energy conservation and ways to attained sustainability.
