DIMAPUR — Nagaland has initiated consultations to assess its readiness for artificial intelligence adoption and to develop a roadmap for implementing AI in governance over the next 24 months.
The initiative was highlighted during a two-day workshop on “AI Implementation for Data Platforms and Public Data” organised under the Nagaland Science Mission at Hotel Vivor, Kohima, on Wednesday.
Prof. Dr. Anuja Pandey of the All India Management Association said the exercise aims to evaluate the state’s preparedness for adopting artificial intelligence and machine learning in public administration and to chart a roadmap for AI implementation across government departments.

Addressing officers from more than 40 government departments on the first day of the workshop, she emphasised the need for coordinated efforts among departments to prepare the state for AI-driven transformation.
Prof. Pandey said the success of AI systems depends largely on the quality and availability of data collected by government departments and encouraged officials to actively participate in the exercise and share insights, a DIPR update stated.
She also noted that several states such as Telangana, Odisha, Karnataka and Gujarat have made progress in developing AI policy frameworks, while northeastern states remain at an early stage of implementation.
Dr. Prof. Saurabh Agarwal, adjunct faculty of AIMA, served as the resource person on the first day of the workshop. Kekuneil Ltu, deputy mission director of the Nagaland Science Mission under the Department of Science and Technology, delivered the introductory remarks.
