Dimapur, August 8 (EMN): Members attending the two-day workshop on ‘Volunteering for nature- human- wildlife coexistence’ were of unanimous decision to have frequent consultations with various departments/ stakeholders to explore option to conserve wildlife.
A two-day workshop was organised by Gandhi Smriti and Darshan, New Delhi, in association with the Confederation of Community Based Organisations of India (CCBOI) and Prodigals’ Home in collaboration with Eco Club of SM College in the latter’s auditorium on August 7 and 8.
Obed Swu, ACF Nagaland Zoological Park, Rangapahar, and Hongba Phom, proprietor of Fingerprint, made presentation on ‘Understanding nature - human - wildlife co-existence’ on the second day of the two-day workshop.
Some of the action plans and suggestions emerging from the workshop included organising consultations with various departments/stakeholders to explore options in conserving the environment by providing resource persons from the Forest/Wildlife department for such programmes; explore possibilities of exposure trips for eco clubs; eco clubs to have monthly/annual work plans, have a mentoring body for eco clubs, and to organise similar workshop/programmess at various levels.
On the first day, Ms Liangsi Niumai, Director of C-CERP, Dimapur, and resource person, spoke on “Understanding environmental issues: how do we act?” and “Nature-human-wildlife coexistence: scriptural defense of endangered spices.” Satya Prakash Tripathi, Chief Wildlife Warden, Dimapur, presented the keynote address and Gulshan Gupta from Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, New Delhi, presented about communicating with nature.
Dr. Arenla Aier, Principal of SM College, delivered the welcome address, while the facilitators were Ms K Ela, Director of Prodigals’ Home, and Mhonthung, Assistant Professor and Eco-Club in Charge, SM College.
