Women’s U15 One Day Trophy: Meghalaya beat Nagaland by 7 wkts

DIMAPUR — Nagaland on Tuesday lost to Meghalaya by 7 wickets at the ongoing Women’s U15 One Day Trophy held at JU Second Campus, Salt Lake, Kolkata.

Winning the toss, Meghalaya chose to field first and successfully restricted Nagaland batters to a total 74 runs for the loss of seven wickets in 35 overs.

Nagaland’s opening batsman Tiajungla was ducked out in just 2.2 overs. However team captain Najmeen Khatun and Eleena Kaurinta steadied the innings, guiding Nagaland to a score of 25/1.

In the 6th over, Meghalaya’s bowler manage to break the partnership by claiming the wicket of Najmeen Khatun, who contributed 19 runs. After the captains’ dismissal, Kaurinta and Bethel Jumei extended their partnership to take the team’s score to 57/2.

Following the dismissal of Kaurinta in 27.3 overs, the Nagaland team’s batting lineup tumbled one after another.

The Nagaland team concluded their innings with a total score of 74/7 in 35 overs, with the Meghalaya bowlers conceding 33 extra runs.

In response, Meghalaya successfully chased the target in 15.1 overs, losing 3 wickets along the way, while the Nagaland bowlers also conceded 39 extra runs.

So far, Nagaland’s track record in the tournament is marked by three consecutive losses.

Earlier, on November 17, Nagaland lost to J&K by 10 wickets.

Again on November 19, Nagaland team went down to Karnataka by another 10 wickets.

A total of 36 teams are taking part in the 35 overs format.
