Women’s market to be set up soon in Manipur

Imphal,June 10 (EMN): Following the Chief Minister’s recent announcement to set up women markets in all district headquarters in April this year, a ministerial team of Senapati District led by N. Kayisii, Minister, TA & Hills and Fisheries inspected the proposed site for construction of the women market at Senapati District Headquarters on Friday, according to DIPR sources.

The team, which also includes PHED Minister L. Dikho, along with DC Senapati and engineers and staff of Manipur Police Housing Corporation and DRDA inspected the proposed site which is presently occupied by the Senapati Police Station. The team also inspected the old Electricity Office Complex adjacent to the police station, where the existing police station is likely to be shifted.

After inspecting the proposed sites, the ministerial team along with the Deputy Commissioner, Senapati and representatives of Senapati District Students’ Association, Senapati District Women’s Association and Naga People’s Organisation deliberately discussed for setting up of the women market at the proposed site, the source said.

During the discussion, N. Kayisii stated that the women market is to be constructed at the proposed site in the interest of the people of the district. He appealed the gathering not to bear any individual interest when it comes to development and welfare of the people. He also appealed to all section of people of the district to co-operate in setting up of such project and in bringing up the district, it added.

Later, it was unanimously agreed and finalised to construct the women market at the proposed site presently occupied by the Senapati Police Station.

The women market at Senapati is to be constructed with a budget of 10 crore as announced earlier by the Chief Minister. The market will have two floors which will accommodate 200 plus women vendors coming from different parts of the district.
