Imphal, Aug. 17 (EMN): Wide spread sit in demonstration demanding justice into the death of a schoolgirl under mysterious circumstances was held in and around Imphal on Aug. 17 affecting the normal business at Khwairamband Keithel market located in the heart of Imphal town where the women market complexes and other shopping outlets are located.
The sit in demonstration was held by the women vendors at iconic Ima keithel women market dressed in their traditional mourning attires during the day.
Placing festoons which read ‘we demand justice,’ etc., in front of their temporary makeshift, the womenfolk of various localities including Thangmeiband, Nagamapal Kangjabi, Leirak Machin, Soram Leirak, etc. staged similar demonstrations.
The women folks demanded unconditional release of some functionaries of the Joint Action Committee(JAC) formed against the recent incident where a class VII girl student was found dead in her school hostel on July 18.
Two rounds of general strikes were also called by the JAC in the recent past to protest the incident.
