Dimapur, March 2 : Womenfolk from Phesame and Kigwema village were sensitized on financial on February 27, with S.K Chhetri from UCO bank as resource person.
The programme was organised by Nagaland State Social Welfare Board SCA of NMDFC, SRCW under Financial Literacy Camp Programme supported under FIF, NABARD.
The aim of in conducting the camp was to equip the womenfolk with the various helps enabling them to improve and promote sustainable and equitable agriculture and rural development.
The resource person shared the significance of banking and various insurance related to it. He said saving is an important source of future investment and the improvement of the living standards of the society. He also talked about the benefits of insurance as an important part of investment which protects farmers against any misfortune in future. He said various insurance reduce the money one have to pay for uncompensated victims of accidental death and loss, which will result in the improvement of the quality of life.Project Manager, NSSWB Asalie A. Kruse presented on importance of digital banking. Citing some of the benefits of digital banking, he said digital banking will make it easier, faster and more efficient. He also said through internet, transfer and bills can be paid through mobile websites. Digital banking will also be environment-friendly initiate which will result in pollution free experience as well, he added.
Kruse also encouraged the participants to make organic agriculture more attractive to young people and empower women as well so they can contribute towards family income and society at large. Citing some successful stories of SHGs in Nagaland, he said providing funding to increase investment in agriculture to raise productivity, improve quality of agricultural products will ultimately increase farmers income and promote rural entrepreneurship for small agri-business. He further said agriculture finance when channelized properly will empower poor farmers to increase their wealth and production.
