Women Veteran Club win volleyball tournament at Longleng

DIMAPUR — The Women Veteran Club was declared champions of the 11th Women Volleyball Tournament at Longleng on Dec. 14, defeating the Agri Ward Youth in the final match.

Deputy Commissioner and chairman of the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (BBBP) scheme Dharam Raj gave away the trophy to the winners during the closing programme.

Delivering the exhortation, former PA to DC Longleng, Bhamak highlighted the achievement of women in sports and other fields. He said that the medal tally of the recent Olympics showed that women brought more medals for the country than men. He encouraged women stating that nothing should stop them from moving forward and achieving their dreams. He also opined that society should give women the same opportunities as men.

The tournament was organised by the district administration and the district hub for empowerment of women, Longleng under the initiative of BBBP, in collaboration with Phenei  Soti Club. It was held on the theme ‘Celebrating Womenhood through Sports,’ a DIPR update stated.
