Women-run micro-enterprise launched in Nagaland

Dimapur, Jan. 29 (EMN): Self-Employed Women’s Association (Sewa) Nagaland has launched the first women-run micro enterprise centre known as Sewa Shakti Kendra (SSK) at Angami Women Organisation (AWO) Building, room no. 14 (1st floor), opposite to Congress Bhavan, Kohima, on January 29.

SSK aims at providing end-to-end community solutions from informing members of various schemes and their respective requirements, filling forms, assisting in submitting documentation and tracking the process of applications, an update from Sewa Nagaland stated.

It added that the model is a replication of a similar service centre, which was launched in New Delhi. After the successful and impactful implementation of the model, SEWAs has implemented similar centres across the country in both urban and rural communities, the statement read.

The statement also informed that two more centres would be opened in February at 5th Mile in Dimapur and Pfutsero town in Phek district.

The centre would cater to the needs of both urban and rural population of women around the centre and ease the procedure of availing public services at subsidised rates. It added that SSKs would disseminate related information, help with documentation, and facilitate member’s access to public services to increase women’s accessibility.

The SSK centres would also provide capacity building training and awareness programmes to women leaders at the grassroots for further dissemination of information in the communities.

The centre is being supported by Sewa Bharat under the Udyami: Building resilience of women micro-entrepreneurs programme funded by USAID.

The inaugural programme was attended by Sewa executives, unit representatives, North East Network, and well-wishers.

The launch programme was chaired by Bounuo Zuyie, Sewa Agevan, while a brief introduction was presented by the state project coordinator Temjenlemla Longkumer. The centre was officially opened after a mass spoken prayer.
